Minneapolis / St. Paul · four campuses
Substance is a non-denominational church that started in a college dorm lounge in 2004 and grew into four campuses across the Twin Cities. Come as you are — coffee's on, the message is honest, and you'll be out in 70 minutes.
First time here?
Grab a cup of coffee from the campus café, sit wherever you'd like, and expect a few songs and a message that's actually about your Monday, not just your Sunday. Services run about 70 minutes, start to finish.
Worship, a message from Pastor Peter or a campus pastor, done — no guessing when it ends.
Clear signage, a check-in desk, and a team that actually wants your kids there.
After service, staff and pastors hang out in the lobby to answer questions and help you find your next step.

Not a FAQ dropdown you'll never click — just straight answers, because you shouldn't have to visit in person to find these out.
Substance is non-denominational, though our theology sits squarely in mainstream evangelical Christianity — we're affiliated with the Association of Related Churches, a network Substance has helped launch hundreds of churches through. Our full doctrinal statement is on the About & Beliefs page.
Four Twin Cities campuses: Northtown in Spring Lake Park, Downtown at the Historic Wesley building near Loring Park, Northwest in Ramsey, and Southside in Bloomington. Full addresses and directions are on the Visit page.
Northtown is 9am & 10:45am; Downtown, Northwest, and Southside all run 9:15am & 10:45am, every Sunday. Christmas Eve and holiday services are added seasonally — check the events page as December gets closer.
We want to be direct rather than vague here: Substance's published statement of faith defines marriage as between one man and one woman, and the church does not perform or host same-sex weddings. At the same time, everyone is welcome to attend a service, and how you engage beyond that is between you and God. If you want the exact wording, our full statement of faith (PDF) is public.
Yes — Manna Market, a food recovery and distribution ministry, gives away free groceries out of our Northtown campus in Spring Lake Park most weeks, no qualifying required. Details and pickup times are on the Get Involved page.
First Sunday of the month, we host a Newcomer's Dinner to introduce you to our staff and what Substance is about. Or just show up this weekend — no dinner required.
